Performs responsible semiskilled work operating trucks, mowing equipment and less complex related automotive equipment. The work of this class involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of trucks and similar automotive equipment to transport men or materials, and to maintain and construct various public facilities. When the nature of work does not require constant operation of assigned equipment employees in this class participate in manual labor incidental to the job such as loading and unloading of equipment, and in performing unskilled or semiskilled maintenance and construction tasks. Assignments may be given in detail for each job, or work may follow well-established routines. Work is reviewed by a superior for quality, quantity, safety of operation and care of equipment. An assignment to this class assumes that the principal duty of an employee is equipment operation and that such operation is not merely incidental to other functions.
